The To' Hajiilee Field Office of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (DEMS) is located in Central New Mexico. The community of To' Hajiilee, New Mexico is very unique part of the Navajo Reservation.

It is located approximately 32 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico along Interstate 40, and 6 miles north.

In the year 2000, the former name of Canoncito was officially changed to "To' Hajiilee". The name To' Hajiilee is interpreted as "Bringing Up Water From a Natural Well."

The To' Hajiilee Field Office operates with limited manpower. It is located next to the Community School, with nine personnel and two ambulances. A supervisor, Clerk, and seven Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). The Clinic operates from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays. The To' Hajiilee Field Office pre-hospital emergency transports and inter-facility transports are made to eight area hospitals.

They are the University of New Mexico Hospital, VA Hospital, Presbyterian Lovelace and Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Hospital. Most transports are approximately thirty-five to fifty-five minutes in duration depending on the location and road condition. Other parts safety agencies are Navajo Nation Police with two sub-station police officers, a BIA Volunteer Fire Service, and New Mexico State Police.

The To' Hajiilee Field Office shares boundaries with three New Mexico: Bernalillo County. Sandoval County, and Cibola County; also with the Laguna Indian Pueblo Reservation. Bernalillo County Fire Department, Albuquerque Fire Department, Superior Ambulance Service, Albuquerque Ambulance Service, Laguna Fire&Rescue, Living Cross Ambulance Service, and Acoma Pueblo EMS/CHR share a mutual aid of understanding that is a verbal agreement.

The To' Hajiilee Field Office response are exists along Interstate forty from Rio Puerco, New Mexico (mile post 140) to the Pueblo of Mesita, New Mexico (mile post 117) and the entire Canoncito Band of Navajo Indians Reservation.

Other responses into the Laguna and Acoma Pueblo Reservations occur out of the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna (ACL) Hospital, located in Acoma, New Mexico. Within the community of To' Hajiilee there is a public school, public housing, Chapter House, Trading posts, Senior Citizen, Day Care facilities, and many rural housing areas.

Also included are responsibilities of the To' Hajiilee Field Office, are providing community public awareness and education presentations; CPR Classes; monthly in-services for EMT personnel (CEU Certifications) and other training to assist the EMT in meeting the specific EMT licensure renewal requirements.

To' Hajiilee, New Mexico is home to many Navajo. We extend our invitation to visit our office located seven miles north of Interstate 40, off of Exit 131.
